About the Project
The Bikery is a Bicycle and Coffee Shop in Downtown St. Petersburg, FL. Serving fresh roasted coffee, tea, while carrying the very best bikes. The Bikery first opened doors in 2016 and its recognized as one of the best coffee shops in St. Pete. They are proud to serve great coffee from brands like Onyx Coffee Labs.
Neal, owner of The Bikery commissioned me to create a menu for the shop. In our initial conversations we discuss his ideas, vision and project goals. The Bikery needed a menu board that could easily display to their customers the espresso, coffee and tea, and specialty drinks offerings. Neal wanted to build a 6ft by 3ft chalkboard that could hang in the coffee area, right above the baristas and ordering counter.
I proposed a project that included the construction of the chalkboard, the menu design, and hand painted execution. The menu has a total of 18 items divided into 3 main sections – Espresso, Coffee & Tea, Specialties. In addition to the these items, their logo was included, as well as a couple promotional messages and The Bikery's website and social media information. The design is clean and simple, it was carefully crafted to fit and adapt to the space. Our goal was to create a menu that was easy to understand, read and order from.
The boards were hand-lettered using One Shot white paint over the black background for natural chalk look and good contrast. To give the menu a vintage look, the custom frame was stained with a red oak finish. I also applied a coat of varnish to protect the artwork for the menu years to come.
Neal was very happy with the final result.
Below are some photos of the process and final designs. Enjoy!
